A cache of old Monrovia photos! Fantastic.

I’m on a history jag at the moment. I hope you enjoy the pictures, courtesy of the Pomona and Anaheim public libraries. Click twice on images to see them larger. For those of you in other cities, the Online Archive of California may have some cool pictures for you as well!

I’m guessing that octagonal building is the old Van De Kamp’s bakery building on the site where Bank of America is today. These are great old photo’s, it’s interesting all the things that have come and gone over the years. I didn’t know about the theatre there.

I do believe they are from different years. I think the first one is 1890ish and the other two 1949 and 1950. You can see the dates on the information on the library site where I linked them from. Just click on the images to see more.

Check out the cool looking street lamps in the photos. How did we end up with those cheap looking, plastic globes that turn yellow in a few years, way to bright, way to short, light polluting, eviormentaly politicaly incorrect street lamps we have on Myrtle today ?

Who were the idiots who signed off on these street lamps we have on Myrtle today ? Monrovia Old Town looks like an amusement park at night.
