Well, it looks as if the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension is back on track, er, pun intended.

Foothill Extension representative Linda Manning sent out an information email today with encouraging words for all those looking forward to having light rail access in Monrovia.

“The Los Angeles The Los Angeles County Registrar made the results official on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 with Measure R passing with 67.93% approval. Although passage was anticipated following the November 4th election, provisional and absentee ballots were yet to be finalized before the December 2nd certification deadline,” wrote Manning. “The first phase of the Foothill Extension (Phase 2A through Azusa) is one of many projects listed within Measure R’s Operating Plan, with funding availability slated as early as 2010.”

She indicated that the best case timeline has been revised as follows:

Commencement of the design / build procurement process for both the Santa Anita Aerial Structure and the Foothill Extension Phase 2A Alignment

June 2010

Recommend award of Santa Anita (Arcadia) Aerial Structure

August 2010

More housing for Monrovia near California and Central. Now we just need some people!

I’m happy to say that this project is progressing and 4 families have been chosen for the property. What a cool thing to be a kid in one of those families seeing their house constructed from scratch!

Enjoy cocktails and dancing to local band The Delgado Brothers while helping a great cause: Habitat for Humanity. This event will benefit the Monrovia Women’s Build, which is raising money to build a Habitat home for a needy family in Monrovia. All you pay is $25 at the door.

Sure, you’d like to see the train station go in soon…so to help make that happen attend the MTA’s next board meeting on Thursday the 24th at 9:30 a.m. at and show your support. The meeting will be held at MTA Headquarters (board room), One Gateway Plaza in Los Angeles.

Remember, this is not a done deal yet, as the Foothill extension has not been allocated as part of the budgeted 30-year regional plan. It’s currently still floundering in the list of “Strategic Projects” which means that it will likely be built only when “funds become available.”

This will be an opportunity for supporters of the Foohill Extension to speak directly to board members during the public comment period (1 minute maximum). The MTA Building is located adjacent to Union Station downtown, which is reachable from the Sierra Madre station in about 35 minutes.
