Lanz building

Lanz building, originally uploaded by Living in Monrovia.
Walked around Claremont village yesterday and saw the light hitting the letters on the Lanz Building just right. It’s my favorite “out-of-town” spot to visit. Not as crowded as Pasadena, and lots of big trees arching over the streets. I wish Monrovia had more big trees.

I like the Deco feeling of Monroe School, shot here by Googiesque. It looks good in black & white.

During the day the Monrovia Post Office building looks rather ordinary; at night, however, it really takes on a different personality!

Love this night shot of Petrillo’s Pizza. I don’t think I’ve ever really noticed it before. Anyone recommend it?
Lovely photo by Googlesque.

Spotted this little guy on one of my walks. I thought he was fake at first!
Nice upgrade to the public works building
I’d been meaning to take a photo of it. Makes the drive down Mountain just that much prettier…
Behold, a door!

Behold, a door, originally uploaded by Living in Monrovia.
And what lies inside yon door? Something about it makes me think of the super natural, no, the great beyond perhaps. Is it the pools out light in front of it? Or perhaps the glow from the lamp up above? What about the sunburst pattern above the door, further suggesting rays of light bursting from overhead? Finally, the unpotted urn, to your lower right as you approach. What does it make you think of? Any wild guesses to which place this door belongs astute readers?

I like that despite this entry is on a scruffy alley, it still has a certain grace to it.
